1. Architect Intern Level Two:

Exciting opportunity for an intern to continue learn about all aspects of architecture in a Northern Lake County firm. Job responsibilities will include production level drafting (AutoCAD) on a wide variety of projects, with potential for preliminary design and presentations on a limited basis. The ideal candidate will be energetic and ready to practice architecture in the real world.

A B.Arch or M.Arch is not required, but preferred. Please note this is a full time position not a summer internship position.

Job Description:

Drafting (AutoCAD)

Hardline plans & elevations from sketches and/or existing drawings

Rough-in building sections (using plans and elevations)

Add detail and notes to plans, sections and elevations from Project Architect’s redlines

Draw details from Project Architect’s redlines

Place drawings on sheets

Plot drawings and send to printer

The Architect Intern, Level Two will backcheck their own work, but all work will be checked by the Project Architect before submitting to clients. Note that the Architect Intern, Level Two may work on one project from beginning to end, or may do partial work as required on an as-needed basis, depending on the work load.

Measure existing conditions

Assist project architect or other intern to measure existing conditions

Transfer measurements/notes to computer

The goal is for the Architect Intern to eventually measure alone. Therefore, assisting will be treated as training, not just "the dumb end of the stick."

Design and Presentations

Render elevations for presentations

Assist in putting together presentation graphics

Preliminary elevation studies

Secondary Duties

Maintain Product Library and Samples

Standards – assist Irene in maintaining and organizing the block and detail libraries.

Administrative Duties:

Although the Architect Intern, Level Two’s primary responsibilities are for drafting and other technical duties, since this is a small office, all technical staff will back up the administrative staff. The scope of duties will depend on the current staffing level. If there is an administrative assistant, administrative duties will primarily be limited to reception duties when the administrative assistant is not available: answering phones, greeting visitors, receiving packages, etc. The Architect Intern, Level Two will also be responsible for general errands and deliveries as assigned.

Candidate Description:

Architect Intern, Level Two is a technical staff person with a 4 year architecture degree with at least 1 year of drafting experience in an architecture office. This person must be able to reproduce a simple drawing using AutoCAD accurately. A knowledge of model space/ paper space and other types of drawing standards would be wonderful but are not required. However, the candidate must be computer literate and willing to learn and use drawing standards. The ideal candidate will be more interested in how buildings go together than in "high design."  He/she will be intelligent, motivated, hard-working but also with a sense of humor and willing to take direction. He/she realizes that they still have a lot to learn, and that learning is the most important thing to accomplish at this point in their career. He/she must be willing to be flexible and to change direction on cue.

2. Job Captain/Junior Project Architect

What is a job captain?

We’ve all heard the term but what does it mean?

Basically, it means that you have had 3-4 years of technical experience working in an architecture firm. You have seen at least 10 projects go from SD to occupancy and understand the sequence of architectural services.

You have the ability to organize a set of drawings and work from a Project Architect’s markups with only limited hand holding. You have a working knowledge of CABO, BOCA and the new International Building Codes.

You are gaining an understanding of building materials and project delivery methods as well as becoming confident in making suggestions that are relevant to the client's needs and project's budget.

While not required, 3-D Studio and/or modeling experience would be nice.

However, understanding AutoCAD is mandatory. We would prefer someone who can use key commands instead of depending on mousing. The basic premise: the more proficient you are with AutoCAD, the more efficient you are in completing tasks.

It is our intent to move this person into higher levels of responsibility such as project programming, building material selection, client project meetings and assisting in construction contract administration.

Lastly, we believe in merit – not letters. A B.Arch or M.Arch is not required, but a lifetime dedication to self-improvement is.
